about image 1579 (McDougall Mill, Renfrew, Ontario)
Renfrew is a very friendly former lumber town of about 3000 residents "up the Valley" from Ottawa. In 1820 a Scottish immigrant named John Lorn McDougall began his career in Canada as a clerk and later opened a general store and in 1855 built this grist mill on the Bonnechere River in Renfrew. The mill now houses an industrial and cultural museum and like a number of old Ontario mills has garnered some attention from the Canadian Haunting and Paranormal Society. I was lucky enough to get this picture after a gentle late winter snowfall.
